The Full Wedding Weekend Itinerary Guide

How to structure Friday through Sunday when your entire guest list stays on-site.

Part of the Hill Country Wedding Planning Guide — see all 7 guides.

A one-day wedding and a wedding weekend take the same amount of planning effort in very different directions. If your venue offers on-site lodging, spreading the celebration across three days turns a single event into an actual shared trip. Here’s a sample structure to build from.

Friday: Arrival & Welcome

Afternoon

Guests arrive and check into cabins, bunkhouses, or the lodge — no shuttle coordination needed since everyone’s staying on the same property.

Evening

Welcome party or rehearsal dinner — a casual BBQ, a catered meal in the lodge, or a relaxed fire pit gathering to bring everyone together before the big day.

Saturday: Ceremony, Reception & Celebration

Morning

Getting-ready time for the wedding party, often in a private suite like a historic Ranch House.

Afternoon / Evening

Ceremony at an outdoor site or indoor lodge, followed by cocktail hour and reception. See outdoor vs. indoor for how to plan this part.

Late night

Fire pit after-party for guests who want to keep the night going, while others head back to their cabins just steps away.

Sunday: Brunch & Farewell

Morning

Farewell brunch, or a quiet group walk on the property’s nature trails before everyone heads home.

Midday

Checkout and departures — no rush, since there’s no second location to travel to.

Why On-Site Lodging Changes the Whole Weekend

The biggest logistics problem in a multi-day wedding is usually guest transportation — coordinating hotel blocks, shuttles, and timing across multiple locations. When cabins, bunkhouses, and a lodge are all on the same property as the ceremony and reception spaces, that entire layer of planning disappears. Guests walk to breakfast, walk to the ceremony, and walk back to their room at the end of the night.

What to Communicate to Guests Ahead of Time

Since guests are staying on-property for multiple days, give them more detail than a standard wedding invite: arrival and checkout times, what’s included in their lodging, and a simple day-by-day schedule so they know what’s optional versus what to plan around. A basic printed or digital weekend itinerary in each guest’s room goes a long way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Friday through Sunday is the most common format — a welcome event Friday, the wedding Saturday, and a farewell brunch Sunday. Some couples extend to Thursday arrival for a larger out-of-town guest list.

No. Most couples make the Friday and Sunday events optional, so local guests can attend just the Saturday wedding while out-of-town guests have the option to make a longer trip of it.

A mix works well for most guest lists — private cabins for couples and families, bunkhouses for friend groups or more affordable group lodging, and a larger house like a historic Ranch House for the wedding party or immediate family.

It adds cost for additional meals and events, but often saves money elsewhere by eliminating the need for separate hotel blocks and shuttle transportation. See the cost guide for a full breakdown.
